Director of External Affairs
Jonathan P. Hendrickson
Appointed Director of External Affairs in September 2019, Jonathan Hendrickson leads all legislative, digital, and communications initiatives within the Office, acting as the agency's liaison to the General Assembly and the media. He also serves as the lean and performance lead for the agency, working to increase agency performance by applying lean manufacturing philosophy and using data to measure outcomes.
Jonathan has served in roles throughout Pennsylvania state government, including as the Director of Legislative Affairs at the Department of Agriculture and the Director of Special Projects and Special Assistant to the Secretary of the Commonwealth at the Pennsylvania Department of State. He also served as the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Senate Local Government Committee and the Legislative Director in the Office of State Senator Rob Teplitz. He began his state government career at the Department of Community and Economic Development, where he would eventually join the Governor's Center for Local Government Services. There he focused on finding innovative ways to identify and overcome municipal financial distress. He was appointed the Recovery Coordinator for Westfall Township, the only municipality in Pennsylvania to suffer bankruptcy, and successfully guided the township out of distress and into fiscal health.
Jonathan holds a bachelor's degree from Penn State University and a master's degree from the University of Pennsylvania.
An active member of his community, Jonathan serves as the Clerk of Session at Second City Church in Midtown Harrisburg, as a board member for the Historic Harrisburg Association, and as a Trustee for the Community Historic Preservation Fund. Jonathan lives in the City of Harrisburg with his wife, Nicole, and their children.
