The Bureau of Fraud Prevention and Prosecution 

The Bureau of Fraud Prevention and Prosecution (BFPP) is responsible for conducting investigations into suspected public benefits fraud and abuse as well as performing collection activities for public benefit programs administered by the Pennsylvania Department of Human Services (DHS). BFPP investigations are primarily conducted by Special Agents and their supervisors.


Special Agent - conducts investigations of activities related to fraud, misuse or theft of public assistance monies in an effort to detect, prevent, and deter welfare fraud. Special Agents are often stationed in County Assistance Offices throughout the Commonwealth and work in partnership with caseworkers to identify applicants ineligible for welfare benefts. Special Agents also file criminal complaints and assist the District Attorney’s Office in the presentation of the case in court proceedings and participate in administrative hearings. Minimum experience and training for this classification is one year of experience in responsible criminal investigation work and a bachelor’s degree or any equivalent combination of experience and training. Necessary special requirement is possession of a valid motor vehicle operator’s license.

If there are no open positions you can set up a Job Alert to receive notifications for future openings.  From the commonwealth’s employment website, click on “Open Jobs”.  Click “Menu” in the upper-left corner and then select “Job Alerts”.  Click in the box next to the Investigative category and then click on the green “Subscribe” button.  Fill in the required information on the form and click “Submit”.
